Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsThe reality
An inquiry in this field is usually someone asking about brows, lips or eyeliner, and often just asking "how much?" Many of those people are curious, comparing artists or still deciding whether they want something permanent at all. A seller can produce a lot of them cheaply. What matters to you is how many become a booked consultation, how many of those leave a deposit, how many show up, how many are good candidates for the procedure, and how many return for the touch-up that finishes the work.
The work itself is a process, not a single sale. Most artists schedule a follow-up after the first session, commonly several weeks later, and consent forms and aftercare instructions are part of it. A client who is booked, shows up and completes the process is worth far more than a name in a spreadsheet, and the steps between inquiry and finished client are where bought contacts tend to fall away.
Rules matter too. Licensing, training requirements, health department inspection and what is allowed to be advertised differ from one state or county to the next, and some places treat this work as tattooing. Advertising platforms and directories also set their own policies about cosmetic procedures and before-and-after photos. Check your state and local rules, and each platform's current terms, before you buy a source that depends on them.
Worksheet
| Stage | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Inquiry received | Source, date and time, service asked about, whether it came by form, call or message | Lets you compare sources honestly |
| First reply | How long it took and who answered | Slow replies lose the person to the next artist who answered |
| Consultation booked | Whether it was booked, and whether a deposit was taken at booking | A booking with a deposit is much stronger than a promise |
| Consultation held | Show or no-show, any reason for a decline or a referral to a doctor | Shows how many people are real candidates |
| Service booked and done | Which service, price and date | The revenue you can set against the source cost |
| Touch-up completed | Whether the client returned and what the follow-up cost you in time | Completes the sale and shows who values the result |
| Refunds, corrections, rescheduling | Time and money spent fixing or redoing | Hidden costs that belong to the source that brought the client |
| Review or referral | Whether the client left a review or sent a friend | Shows what a client is worth over time |
Test small
Pick a total you can lose without stress, a short window and a date to decide. Skip long contracts until the source has proved itself.
Have a simple link for consultations, a deposit that applies to the service, clear no-show terms and a short intake form about skin, medications and goals.
Give the paid source its own booking link or tag so you can tell its clients from everyone else.
A prompt, friendly answer with a consult offer beats a long message full of prices. Write a reply you can adapt in under a minute.
Follow the worksheet above, including people who disappeared. Silence is data.
Divide total spend, plus time you billed yourself for consults that went nowhere, by clients who completed the full process.
Set that number next to clients from your map listing, referrals and social media. Keep, change or end the paid source based on the comparison.
Hidden costs
Hours, not dollars
Many contacts want a number and then vanish. Your time at the chair is your most expensive resource.
A slot you could have filled
An unpaid consult for someone who never intended to book blocks a slot and eats prep time.
Wasted setup and supplies
Without a deposit, the cost of a missed appointment lands on you.
People you must turn away
Some inquiries are not suitable for the procedure or need a doctor first. Turning them away is the right call, but it still costs a slot.
A price that sets expectations
People who arrive through a deal often expect that price again for the touch-up or future work.
Reputation risk
Rushing a client who is not ready, or whose expectations were set by an ad, can create a result nobody is happy with.
Policy surprises
Ads or listings that break a platform rule on cosmetic content may be rejected or removed, so check current policies.
Own what you build
For most artists, the clients who stay longest find them through their own work. A Google Business Profile with real photos and reviews, a page for each service such as powder brows, lip blush or eyeliner, a consistent way to ask for reviews after healing, and an occasional ad aimed at people near your studio can all be tracked back to booked consultations.
Plainly, GetPhound does not sell, resell or broker permanent makeup leads and does not run a marketplace. We build and measure those owned sources. RankGuarantee™ local pages are $495 a month for 25 new pages, Organic Growth starts at $1,495 a month, and managed ads start at $895 a month with ad spend paid to the platform. There is no setup fee and no contract.
Common questions
A tightly capped test can work, but a slow book usually points to something to fix first, such as response time, a deposit policy or how easy it is to find your reviews. A paid source will not fix those problems.
How the person asked for a procedure, how many artists receive the contact, how fast it arrives and what happens with duplicates, wrong numbers or people outside your area. Ask to see the form wording and the return terms in writing.
Start with your state or county health department and any board that licenses tattooing or cosmetic work, since the rules differ widely and some places treat this as tattooing. Check platform policies too. We cannot tell you what applies where you work.
Sellers set their own prices, so ask for written terms. Owned channels with us start at $495 a month for RankGuarantee™ pages, $895 for managed ads and $1,495 for Organic Growth, month to month, with ad spend paid to the platform.
Many are comparing options or are not ready. A reply that offers a short consult, explains the two-step process and asks for a deposit sorts the serious people from the curious ones.
It helps, but you need client consent for photos and you should check platform rules about showing procedures. Pair photos with reviews and clear service pages.
How many finish the process and come back for the touch-up. Count clients, not contacts, and compare every source on cost per finished client.
