Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsPlenty of businesses buy leads. Some come away with a full calendar, and some come away with a pile of names that never pick up the phone. The difference is rarely luck. It comes down to what kind of lead was bought, how many other buyers got the same one, how fast it was followed up and whether anyone measured what it cost to win a customer.
Choose your industry below for a guide written around how that trade is actually sold leads and where the traps are. We do not sell leads ourselves, so there is nothing to push on you.
Pick your industry
The short version
A bought lead is a name and a contact method that a seller collected somewhere else, with a promise attached. The promise might be that the person asked for your kind of service, that only a few companies will get the same name, or that the phone will ring with someone ready to talk. Every one of those promises can be true or false, and you usually cannot tell until you have spent money.
That does not make buying leads foolish. It makes it a purchase you should test the way you would test a new truck or a new hire: small first, with a clear way to judge it. This site walks through that test for each trade.
It also explains the alternative. Leads you generate yourself, through a complete map listing, pages built around the services and towns you cover, ads you control and reviews that reflect your work, cost more attention up front and belong to you afterward. Many owners end up with a mix, and the guides show how to decide on the proportions.
How leads are sold
| Model | What you pay for | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Shared leads | Each name, sold to several businesses | You compete on speed and price before anyone has met you |
| Exclusive leads | Each name, sold to you alone | Check what exclusive means and for how long, and how the name was found |
| Pay per call | A phone call of a minimum length | Call quality and duration rules decide whether the calls are usable |
| Pay per appointment or job | An outcome rather than a contact | Read what counts as an appointment and who controls the qualifying step |
What goes wrong
Most disappointment with purchased leads happens after the purchase. A name arrives while the owner is on a job site, the callback happens the next afternoon, and the person has already spoken to two other companies. Speed alone can turn a decent lead into a wasted one, which is why the first question for any seller is how quickly each lead reaches you and how many others receive it.
The second leak is quality that nobody checks. Duplicates, wrong numbers, people who never asked for the service and names that were collected months ago all look the same on an invoice. A seller who stands behind the product will explain how bad leads are credited. One who will not is telling you something.
The third leak is the missing comparison. If you cannot say what a signed customer from a bought lead cost you, and what one from your own map listing or referrals cost, you are guessing. The guides on this site give each trade a way to keep that score without a complicated system.
Ask before you pay
Source matters
Ask whether the person filled out a form for your kind of service, answered a call, or was pulled from a list, and whether they agreed to be contacted.
Exclusivity
Get the number of buyers per lead in writing, along with how long the exclusivity lasts and whether the lead can be resold later.
Timing
A lead that reaches you an hour late may already belong to someone else. Ask for delivery by call, text or email within minutes.
Credits
Wrong numbers, duplicates and out-of-area names happen. A fair seller credits them, and explains how to claim.
Terms
Long commitments with minimum volumes make a failed test expensive. Prefer month to month and a hard spending cap.
A fair way to try it
Work backward from the margin on a typical job, patient or client, so you know the most you can pay per signed customer.
A short test with a hard limit tells you more than a long contract and costs far less if it fails.
Use the same speed, script and follow-up for every source so the comparison is fair.
Record where each lead came from and what happened, including the ones that went nowhere.
Put the cost per signed customer next to what your map listing, ads and referrals produce.

Questions owners ask first
We do not. There is no lead marketplace behind this site, and nothing here is a sales pitch for names. We help owners build their own sources and compare every source with signed work.
Sometimes. It can make sense for a new market, a short-term capacity gap or a quick test, as long as you cap the spend and judge the result by cost per signed job.
Because a storm roofing lead, a divorce inquiry and a catering request are sold, qualified and followed up in different ways. The risks differ with them.
Rules vary. Lawyers, health providers, lenders, insurers and others may face limits on buying leads or paying for referrals. Check with your board, bar or counsel first.
Our own pricing runs from $495 a month for local landing pages to $1,495 and up for the fuller Organic Growth plans, and managed ads begin at $895. Nothing requires a contract or a setup fee, and ad budgets are paid to the platform.
