Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsWhy this product is different
Permanent lighting is a track or channel fastened under the roofline, with programmable LEDs that can shine a plain warm white all year and switch to colors for holidays and game days. Homeowners usually meet the idea in two ways: they are tired of hanging seasonal lights, or they saw a neighbor's house lit at night. Either way, they are considering an upgrade to the house, not fixing an emergency, which is why permanent outdoor lighting leads convert more slowly than emergency repair calls.
That makes the sale consultative. A homeowner wants to see the roofline measured, understand how the system is controlled from a phone and compare the quote with DIY kits and with companies that hang seasonal lights. Because the job is priced by the length of the roofline and the number of features, two homes on the same street can produce very different tickets.
Demand is also lumpy. Interest swells when the holidays approach, but installers need weeks to schedule, so inquiries in the fall may turn into January installs. A seller that charges the same for a lead in October and one in April is not pricing the real value difference, and a permanent outdoor lighting buyer who ignores that gap tends to overspend in the busy months.
Worksheet
| Stage | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Lead received | Date, source, how the homeowner contacted you | Lets you separate bought sources from your own |
| First reply | Minutes until a human responded | Slow replies are the cheapest way to lose a lead |
| Qualified | Owner-occupied, roofline type, rough scope, timing | Screens out renters and curious browsers |
| Consultation booked | Date and who ran it | Shows how many leads you can convert to a visit |
| Quote delivered | Amount, linear footage, features | Needed to calculate average job size |
| Decision | Signed, declined, undecided, reason | Reasons teach you more than wins do |
| Install completed | Labor hours, materials, travel | The real margin only shows up after the install |
| All-in cost of the source | Lead fees, ad spend, time of whoever followed up | Divide by signed jobs for the number you compare |
Use the same columns for every source so comparisons stay fair.
The consultation
In most permanent outdoor lighting companies the consultation is the sales event. Someone measures the roofline, talks through where track runs and where it stops, shows how colors and scenes are set from a phone, and gives a quote by the foot. That visit might take an hour or more, and a lead that never converts still costs you that hour.
Owners who sell the work themselves feel this directly. A dealer with one salesperson can run only so many consultations a week, which caps how many bought leads are worth paying for. Count your weekly consultation slots first, then buy no more leads than those slots can absorb.
Commercial inquiries deserve their own line in the worksheet. A storefront, a restaurant or a homeowners association may have a decision committee, longer approvals and a very different ticket. Lump them together with homeowners and your averages become meaningless.
Small test
Run the test in a month when you can answer quickly and book consultations within a few days. Do not start it during your busiest install weeks.
Write the number down before the first lead arrives and stick to it.
Assign the test source a unique phone number or form so you can tell its leads from your own.
Ask the same five questions on the first call so you can compare sources on equal terms.
Because the decision is long, track results beyond the first month. Early numbers may look worse than they are.
Use the worksheet, then decide whether to continue, adjust or stop.
Hidden costs
Your biggest hidden spend
Every site visit and roofline measurement takes time whether or not the homeowner signs.
Paying for the wrong month
Leads that arrive when your crews are full cannot be served and cool off quickly.
Price comparison trap
Some inquiries are people comparing you with a box kit or a one-time holiday decorator.
Competing with your own network
If a seller also sells to another dealer in your area, you are racing a company that may use the same system.
Costs after the sale
A cheap source that sends hard-to-serve homes can increase your service workload.
Staff hours
Lead buyers often lose time on applicants who do not qualify for financing or do not want it.
Owned alternative
The strongest sources for permanent lighting are the ones that keep working once the holiday rush ends. A Google Business Profile packed with night photos of finished homes, local pages that explain the product and how installs are scheduled, and reviews that mention the neatness of the track and the app experience are assets that keep helping every month.
GetPhound does not sell, resell or broker leads, and does not run a lead marketplace. We build those owned sources for installers and report each one against signed jobs, so you can see whether bought leads are earning their keep or just filling the calendar.
Plans are month to month with no setup fee and no contract. RankGuarantee™ landing pages are $495 a month. Organic Growth begins at $1,495 a month with Silver, $2,495 with Gold and $3,495 with Platinum. Managed ads begin at $895 a month, and ad spend is separate. A small, measured test of a newer channel such as ChatGPT ads can sit alongside, but only as a modest experiment.
Installer questions
Sometimes, if you can answer fast and have installers available. It helps most when you are entering a new territory or filling a quiet period, and it helps least when your calendar is full.
Ask how many dealers receive each lead, test one source with a cap, track every lead on the worksheet above and judge by cost per signed job rather than the invoice per lead.
Prices vary by market and lead type, so do not rely on a quote alone. For alternatives, RankGuarantee™ pages are $495 a month, Organic Growth starts at $1,495 a month and managed ads start at $895 a month plus ad spend.
Fall is when interest rises, but it is also when installers get busy. If you have installation capacity, a test may fit. If not, extra leads just wait.
Renters, homes with rooflines you cannot serve, people only comparing seasonal hanging prices, and numbers that do not connect are all common.
They can, if you cannot respond promptly or if homeowners expected something different from what you offer. Set expectations on the first call.
No. We help installers build owned sources and measure them honestly.
